STEVEN ALBERT/BASS/ VOCALS /HORNS -
Steven Albert is a life-long musician with a history of professional performance experiences both on stage and in studio. Starting with his study of trumpet in 1984, Steve’s musical journey expanded to bass guitar and has carried him to collaborations, awards, and stages all over the Northeastern United States.
Steve’s musical roots took hold throughout high school and college, where he was a leader in the trumpet sections of numerous performing ensembles, including the Liverpool Warriors Field Band and Jazz Ensemble, among others. At Le Moyne College, he was a founding member of the Le Moyne College Jazz Ensemble, under the direction of John Spillett.
After shifting his musical focus to bass guitar in 1996, Steve began gaining recognition as a rock bassist in the music scene for his work with the original band, Neural Groove. “Chasing the dream,” this band performed all over New York State and beyond, with notable performances as regional finalists in the Jim Beam Band Search in Providence Rhode Island, at Syracuse’s Party in the Plaza, and placing second at the Ernie Ball/Vans Warped Tour Battle of the Bands at the House of Guitars in Rochester. Neural Groove released two albums, both of which were nominated in several categories at the Syracuse Area Music Awards (SAMMYs). In 1999, the band claimed a SAMMY award for Best Modern Rock Band, and in 2001, Steve took home an individual award for Best Rock Instrumentalist.
Following Neural Groove, Steve moved on to new projects including the hard rock band From Ruins, Syracuse tribute project Vinyl Albums Live, and Mountains and Valleys, an original, Syracuse-based indie/folk band. These SAMMY-nominated projects highlight the stylistic range of Steve’s playing. They also created opportunities for him to showcase his playing on a recent release by the band School Friends and on several national advertising campaigns.
Most recently, Steve has been touring with the party/dance band, Square Pegs, and playing lead trumpet with the funk/R&B band, In Too Deep. He is very excited to have the opportunity to bring his talents back to the Syracuse area with The Guise and The Other Guise.
